I made this little mock-up (admittedly rough) after seeing Bill Gates’ recent The Giving Pledge, which, according to their website, is “an effort to invite the wealthiest individuals and families in America to commit to giving the majority of their wealth to philanthropy.” My idea is simple: wealthy artists giving back to younger artists through services like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo. Can you imagine the impact this would have on the art world? It would not just be a blind donation, but a promise to endorse the projects of artists they genuinely would like to support. A night on the town for Diddy would probably be the budget of a short documentary for me, if not more. Pipe dream? Umm, yeah… probably.
